Specific Skills
  • Highly proficient in using MS Word suite including, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Working knowledge of ADP, Avature and Cornerstone would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with clients at all levels of the organization and influence decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills.
  • Self-starter and able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize effort and manage multiple projects and initiatives concurrently.
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive utilizing well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player with demonstrated professional and emotional maturity and judgment to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy and tact.
  • Solid knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to the human resources field, particularly as they pertain to recruitment, performance management, compensation, and employee/labour relations.
  • Solid knowledge of the relevant policies, employment standards and other regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
The HR Advisor provides exceptional support to the business. The HR Advisor will play a key role in enabling leaders to manage their teams effectively. They will act as a consultant and business partner to their assigned client groups. Working collaboratively and utilizing a client-focused approach, the HR Advisor will contribute to the service delivery of the business by providing guidance and support on all things HR. Your typical week at Maximus 
  • Coach and advise leaders on key areas such as: Talent Review, recruitment; legislative matters, collective agreement language, performance management, attendance management, terminations, HR policy application and interpretation, compensation, learning and development, disability management and employee relations.
  • Work with leadership, ensuring they are compliant with Human Rights, Employment Equity, Occupational Health and Safety, and Employment and Labour Legislation in multiple provinces.
  • Maintain a strong and collaborative working relationship with our union partner.
  • Participate in joint labour management meetings and various sub-committees.
  • Develop and facilitate leadership workshops.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of organization-wide programs and initiatives.
  • Manage and monitor various HR programs.
  • Maintain and foster business relationships to enable collaboration with all levels of the organization ensuring a high level of customer service.
  • Work with leaders to encourage and foster a high performing culture.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Use business insights to drive change in people management practices.
  • Lead and participate in special workgroups to increase technical capability and foster a collaborative and inclusive culture within the team.
Additional Requirements
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in the Human Resources field
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in Human Resources in a unionized environment
  • Experience working with and interpreting Collective Agreement
  • Experience working within various employment legislation such as Provincial Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, etc
  • Experience working within Employment Standards Acts in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Prince Edwards Island would be an asset
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resource Professional) designation would be an asset
  • Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check
