As a vital part of our Human Resources Department, reporting to and working closely with the Human Resources Manager, the successful candidate will assume the crucial role of providing expert labor relations advice and guidance, interpreting Collective Bargaining Agreements, Company policies, Employment Standards, and handling labor relations matters. This role will entail coordinating, administering, managing, and implementing various labor relations and human resources functions.

What we’re looking for from you:
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience in labor relations in a senior capacity.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with experience in conflict resolution.
  • High flexibility and strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate in a diverse environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including the development of PowerPoint presentations, document formatting, and the design of various graphs and charts.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands.
  • High level of integrity and work ethic.

  • Build and nurture a positive labor relations environment between leadership teams and union representatives across the organization.
  • Provide leadership and counsel to frontline leaders regarding the interpretation of Collective Agreements and legislative requirements.
  • Participate in and support the collective bargaining process, taking the lead in implementing new collective agreements.
  • Develop labor relations solutions that align with business objectives and comply with legislation and collective agreements.
  • Source, recommend, coordinate, and facilitate labor and leadership training sessions for groups or individuals as needed, including identifying funding opportunities.
  • Offer coaching and mentorship to frontline leaders on labor relations matters, including discipline and workplace conduct issues.
  • Support frontline leaders in labor relations fact-finding and investigations.
  • Manage the labor grievance and arbitration process.
  • Prepare detailed reports and communications on escalating labor relations matters, providing recommendations to the Human Resources Manager.
  • Generate reports on trend analysis with recommendations on various labor relations and human resource-related topics.

Educational Requirements

  • Degree/Diploma in Business Administration and/or Labor Relations, or a related field of study, or equivalent management and/or union labor experience and training.
  • CPHR designation or equivalent; or willingness to obtain it within 2 years.
