The opportunity
The Project Engineering team has a career opportunity available for an experienced and motivated Pipeline Project Engineer. Reporting to the Manager – GPMC Pipeline, this position will be responsible for providing project engineering support for the pipeline maintenance capital and expense program.

 

In this role, you will provide engineering technical direction and support for a variety of projects including launchers & receivers, valve and actuator replacements, pipe replacements, modifications, and reconnects, hydrotesting, crossings, etc. You will collaborate with the Project Management teams to support engineering activities through design, implementation and turnover.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or an equivalent governing body in Canada as a practicing Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in good standing
  • 10 years of relevant, progressive experience
  • Knowledge of engineering design standards and applicable natural gas industry codes and regulations
  • A strong and demonstrated commitment to safety, health, the environment and quality.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Experience in pipeline engineering design
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships
  • Ability to apply engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issues, recommend improvements, and implement solutions
  • Ability to proactively determine mitigation strategies and innovative solutions to problems
  • Ability to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple activities concurrently.

Responsibilities
What you’ll do 
  • Interact with internal technical groups and external engineering firms to develop timely and efficient Issued For Construction (IFC) design packages
  • Oversee third party engineering to ensure work is executed and managed in accordance with approved plans, contracts, schedules and budgets
  • Plan and coordinate engagement of internal stakeholders including operations and engineering to provide input to and review of engineering deliverables
  • Draft and facilitate completion of technical project documents including design basis, technical descriptions, scope of work, evaluation of alternative options, etc.
  • Coordinate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and incorporate any requirements into design packages
  • Provide support for procurement activities (technical reviews, data sheets, etc.)
  • Lead the resolution of technical issues during detailed engineering, fabrication, construction, including Requests for Information (RFI) and Design Change Notices (DCN)
  • Monitor and ensure compliance to company policies, procedures and quality processes
  • Provide technical mentorship to other Project Engineers and Engineers-in-Training
  • Attend site visits, as necessary.
Additional Requirements
This position requires candidates to:
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve stays away from home
