Regulatory Compliance Specialist

Overview

As a Regulatory Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible to ensure Irving Oil’s regulatory compliance processes are developed and implemented in accordance with applicable legislation. Your goal will be to provide strategic Regulatory Compliance related advice, support, and guidance to make informed business decisions to help us achieve our goal to eliminate injuries and incidents.  Your success will be determined by your ability to drive safety, reliability, compliance, and quality.

Responsibilities
  • Build an understanding of current and developing regulations for Irving Blending & Packaging.  This includes developing a system to manage and monitor.
  • Assist the Regulatory Compliance Team in the design, implementation, monitoring and measuring of company-wide regulatory compliance strategy and programs in accordance with the Irving Oil Values, Strategic Priorities.
  • Lead processes to engage and collaborate with Operational Areas’, Operations and Legal/Regulatory compliance teams to interpret regulations.  This includes training, education, and program development.
  • Collaborate with the Regulatory Compliance Specialists and the Operational Areas Teams to develop Corporate Policies, Standards and Procedures that relate to regulatory compliance and build the Regulatory Registry.
  • Manage Regulatory Compliance projects, as assigned, to ensure alignment, commitment delivery and goal achievement.
  • Provide support, advice and guidance to Operational Areas’ and make recommendations to promote regulatory compliance.
  • Provide issue resolution support to Operating Areas, escalating as necessary, any complex questions to Corporate Regulatory Compliance Specialists and the Regulatory Compliance Director.
  • Review and analyze regulatory compliance data to ensure its accuracy and thoroughness and identify trends and solutions to ensure future compliance.
  • Develop, manage and conduct periodic self-assessments to ensure that compliance standards are followed.
  • Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provide general guidance to Operating Areas to ensure issues are addressed and to minimize reoccurrence.
  • Track mandatory internal and external (including government) audit actions, notices and/or orders for reporting activities on behalf of IOL operational areas, ensuring appropriate responses are provided and executed according to established timelines.
Additional Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in petroleum industry
  • Experience with an ERP system (Sage)
