Senior Tax Advisor

Overview

Cenovus is currently recruiting for a Senior Tax Advisor to join the Planning & International Tax Department.  The successful candidate will be a valuable member of the team providing tax advice and practical solutions to the business. They will be accountable for assisting the team on legislative tax research, providing tax support to internal stakeholders including other functions in tax department.

Specific Skills
  • Strong knowledge of excel, PPT, SAP, Tax prep would be an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and accountability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Diligent, detail oriented and ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct Canadian and international income tax research, prepare technical tax memos, M&A due diligence reports, and prepare/review financial models for various business and tax planning initiatives.
  • Support or manage the implementation of tax plans which includes coordination with the business, tax reporting, financial reporting, and other functions.
  • Provide accurate and timely technical tax advice to internal stakeholders (HR, legal, treasury, risk, business units and corporate development, etc.) on tax or business initiatives/projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly and year-end tax provision documentations (including but not limited to tax legislatives update and impact to the company).
  • Prepare or review Canadian FAPI, foreign affiliate surplus calculations, adjusted cost base calculation, Pillar Two compliance.
  • Prepare or review Canadian international information reporting (e.g., Form T106s, T1134s, T1135s, etc.)
  • Assist in the resolution of CRA audits through the preparation of response to CRA queries.
  • Work with other tax functions in tax department as required.
Additional Requirements
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 8 years of Canadian corporate income tax work experience.
  • Familiar with Canadian surplus calculations, FAPI computation and foreign affiliate rules.
  • Experience in Oil and gas industry would be advantage.
  • Dedication and desire for continuous learning of tax laws/rules within the jurisdictions the Company operates.

Educational Requirements

  • A Bachelors’ degree in finance or accounting.
  • Completion of a recognized accounting designation.
  • Completion of CPA In-Depth Tax Courses level I and II, with level III and international taxation preferable.
